Weddings in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, located in Berkshire in the south east of England boasts two of the most popular places to visit in the UK. Legoland Windsor and Windsor Castle attract thousands of tourists from around the world each year and there are many other fabulous places and venues to visit in and around the area.
Windsor is steeped in 1,000 years of history, all of which the visitor can learn more about on a heritage trail which takes in Windsor Castle, continues across the Thames to Eton College, through the cobbled streets which are commonly known as Guildhall Island where there are many buildings dating back to the 17th century. These include the house where Nell Gwynne, mistress of Charles II lived, as well as the location where William Shakespeare is said to have written The Merry Wives of Windsor.
Down the hill lies Curfew Tower which once housed the dungeons, as well as the house of Sir Christopher Wren, built in 1676 and now a hotel with outstanding views over the River Thames. Nearby Windsor Great Park has 4,800 acres of land and was established in 1360s. It was always a popular hunting area for Saxon kings and can be accessed from Windsor town centre by foot via the Long Walk.
Royal Windsor Racecourse is situated next to the river and overlooks the castle. Royal Ascot is probably the most popular race meeting in Britain and is held here in April each year. It has been held for 300 years and is always attended by royalty. The Gold Cup and Golden Jubilee Stakes are the highlight of Ascot week with many millions of pounds in prize money. Famous for both the races and the public display of flamboyant hats that accompanies them, it makes a great venue for a day out. The area has been used for sporting events since the time of Henry VIII.
With its historical features and old world charm, Windsor makes the perfect town in which to get married. There are many timbered buildings, vast stretches of historical parkland and attractive hotels which are wonderful locations for a wedding ceremony and wedding breakfast.
There is no difficulty in organising a wedding in the town of Windsor. It is a popular place for such events and many hotels and other establishments in the area offer great wedding packages and deals. For wedding guests travelling from out of town there are many accommodation options including bed and breakfast venues both within and outside the town, plenty of quality hotels near Windsor and even holiday flats and houses to rent.
As a wedding location, Windsor is easily reachable, situated just 30 miles to the west of London and only a 15 minute drive from Heathrow airport, with Gatwick and Luton airports also under an hour away. The town is linked via the M3, M4, M25 and M40 motorways and enjoys excellent public transport links.
